Dr Aleesha Jethwa

Hi, I’m Aleesha!

I’m a trainee registrar in North Central London.

Whilst preparing for the Primary FRCA I was frustrated by the lack of focused learning available. After successfully passing, I was determined to help others in need and so Yusra and I resolved ourselves to the cause -> to help offer support and guidance to others sitting the Primary FRCA.

Why this course?

In school I gravitated towards roles in counselling, mentoring and education. As I have progressed through higher education, this interest has only grown stronger. The creation of MOSCE-TO was a natural next step in my progression, and whilst it comes with its own challenges, the rewards far outweigh the workload!

About Me

My interest in mentoring and education started in medical school where alongside my studies I committed myself for 4 years to SAMDA, a charity aimed at helping children in the deprived East London area obtain entry into medical and dental school, becoming Co-President in 2014. Alongside this I was a peer tutor to junior students which helped develop my teaching style.

Following medical school I spent the majority of my time in foundation school mentoring medical students, creating mock OSCEs and teaching workshops for students and coordinating local weekly teaching on medical school entry for sixth form students. During this time I was heavily involved in leadership activities including being the Chair of the Junior Doctor’s Forum, something which taught me a great deal about the various struggles we all go through. Since starting anaesthetics, I gravitated towards more teaching and supportive mentorship roles, becoming a simulation fellow, a trainee representative and a teacher on regional and local programmes in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. I am also proud to be both an ALS and EPALS instructor and find that this has helped me better understand my role not just as a teacher, but also as a supportive mentor and coach to others.

When we held our first MOSCE-TO OSCE course, we found that some candidates were lacking guidance and therefore we decided to start our own mentoring service to help people to achieve their goals. Anaesthetics can be lonely and my hope is that through this scheme we will be able to connect people all across the UK! Everyone should have access to mentoring and this is why we offer this service FREE to everyone.

My passion for coaching and mentoring has led me to complete certificates in coaching and mentoring and I am also an Association of Anaesthetists’ mentor. I still mentor sixth form students to this day!
